Nonprofit is working to advance mission of eliminating poor vision
DALLAS – The Essilor Vision Foundation, the nonprofit launched and supported by Essilor of America, is capitalizing on the impressive momentum achieved in 2014 with continued growth and expansion. Essilor of America founded the 501(c)(3) organization in 2007 with the mission to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences. Essilor International is also expanding a charitable concept similar to the Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) in other regions around the world.
Throughout 2014 EVF saw tremendous progress in the United States, as the organization provided more than 215,000 screenings and 44,000 pairs of glasses to students in need at no cost to their families. This year, the organization hopes to surpass those noteworthy stats by providing more than 52,000 glasses to underprivileged individuals across the country.
Last year, EVF also saw continued expansion of its Kids Vision for Life program, an initiative that ensures children learn at full capacity due to their healthy vision. Through mobile clinics at schools, vision fests and special events, Kids Vision for Life collaborates with school administration and health care providers to conduct vision screenings, targeting children between 5 and 12 years old without vision insurance and whose family income is below the federal poverty line. In October, EVF launched a new Kids Vision for Life program in Greater Washington, D.C. A new location was also founded in Los Angeles through a partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Additionally, Essilor International is pursuing a similar concept with three new entities opening across Asia to serve the 1.6 billion people in the region who need vision correction and do not have it. A fourth entity has just been created in Canada, and campaigns were successfully co-conducted in France, Tunisia, Ethiopia, The Gambia and Colombia.
Outside of North America, more than 80,000 screenings were held and 40,000 people provided with new prescription eye glasses. These efforts provided a global impact of more than 250,000 screenings giving more than 80,000 glasses.
“We’re proud of the important work being done in the U.S. through the Essilor Vision Foundation, and we’re committed to providing vision correction at no cost to the most disadvantaged individuals all over the world,” said Jayanth Bhuvaraghan, chief corporate mission officer, Essilor International. “Last year, new Essilor Vision Foundations were legally established in India, Singapore and China, and we’re developing new initiatives to continue advancing our global mission of reaching four million people by 2020.”
A new logo and thematic reflects the global expansion of the Essilor Vision Foundation concept and Essilor Group’s ambition to reverse the trend of uncorrected vision around the world.
